In his TOPOGRAPHY OF ALL KNOWN VINEYARDS, André Jullien (1766-1832, renowned pioneer of oenology) quoted the Moulin-à-Vent as a first class wine : “There is a lightness, spirit in the body and a wonderful bouquet.”
He recommends in particular the wine coming from Les Michelons’ area which lies in the Chénas area.
The soil which is here granitic and rich in manganese contributes to the wine’s quality. The Moulin-à-Vent is one of the ten Crus of the Beaujolais area. With its dark ruby-red appearance, it is a full bodied wine, carrying fragrance of iris, wilted roses, spices and ripened soft fruits.
The king of the Beaujolais Crus gets its name from an antique windmill perched on a hill just a short walk from Château Lambert.
